Acupuncture for Disc Pain

I woke up one morning with pain in my hamstring... I went to the gym the night before, so I figured it was a pulled muscle... no biggie. As days turned into weeks, my pain began to travel throughout my entire right leg... I suffered for 8 months before getting a MRI... turns out I have a herniated disc in my L5 which is pressing on my sciatic nerve. I was told a simple back surgery will cure me 100%. It sounds good but I don't trust it. I've heard some horror stories of surgery gone wrong.

As an alternative I looked into acupuncture. After my first session I felt extreme relief, the acupuncturist told me my body will heal itself but I must help it. She recommended no moving of the spine for 3 days! She said whatever I do, make sure my back is straight as possible. I am now on day two and I can definitely get around better than I have in months... there is no shooting pain. She told me to see her once a week for 3 months, I will keep you updated on my progress... I'm crossing my fingers! - Tara
