Spinal Fusion for Cervical Herniated Disc
I'm a 29 year old female working in the health field as a CNA. I injured myself on the job in march of 2008. I have never been in so much pain in my life and I have had 3 children! At the time I was injured I was told I most likely pulled a muscle and continued to work and try physical therapy which caused me to be in double the pain I started with. Eventually my neck and head got completely stuck to the left I couldn't even move it at all! I was then sent for an MRI which supposedly showed a bulging disk in my neck and I was then sent to a chiropractor and continued to work light duty, which i stopped in oct of 2008 after not being relieved from the pain and being told it was arthritis irritating the bulging disk. Finally in October of 2008 after not being able to take the pain any longer and being sent back and forth to tons of doctors, tons of IMEs, therapy, & chiropractors I decided to see a neurosurgeon who sent me for another MRI and found I actually had a herniation at c-5 c-6 level. I ended up having an anterior cervical diskectomy and fusion in November of 2009 and it was extremely painful! I was sent home the same day of my surgery and couldn't do anything for almost 2 months and I don't understand what happened? The pain in my left shoulder and neck has eased up but the pain in the right side has increased unbelievably! I've been back to physical therapy, I've tried aqua therapy, and now I'm going to try pain management as a last resort. I have also been offered cortisone injections in my spine but I will not do that. I have had enough! I feel like I'm 80 yrs old already! - Colleen
