I woke up one morning with pain in my hamstring. I went to the gym the night before, so I figured it was a pulled muscle. No biggie. As days turned into weeks, my pain began to travel throughout my entire right leg. I suffered for 8 months before getting a MRI.
It turns out I have a herniated disc in my L5, which is pressing on my sciatic nerve. I was told a simple back surgery will cure me 100%. It sounds good, but I don't trust it. I've heard some horror stories of surgery gone wrong.
As an alternative I looked into acupuncture. After my first session I felt extreme relief. The acupuncturist told me my body will heal itself, but I must help it. She recommended no moving of the spine for 3 days. She said whatever I do, make sure my back is straight as possible.
I am now on day two and I can definitely get around better than I have in months. There is no shooting pain. She told me to see her once a week for 3 months.
I will keep you updated on my progress. I'm crossing my fingers! - Tara
